Remove obstructions around the safety sensors

The main purpose of this is to prevent the door from closing down in case a child may be below it.
These are located at the bottom part of your garage door.
- Remove any obstructions on the path of the safety sensors.
- Check if both sensors are aligned. Realign it if this is the case.
If it’s stuck, then go to the next fix.
Deactivate Lock Switch
A lock switch may have been installed on your garage door.
This switch is mainly for vacation purposes.
It disables all the garage door remote, thus the door can only be opened via the wall control unit.
This mechanism is used to prevent thieves from opening your garage door while you’re on vacation.
So, press the lock switch again to activate the remote controllers.

Open Manually

Assuming that the garage door is fully closed and the springs are not broken, do the following:
- Unplug the garage door opener.
- Pull the red cord. This is the emergency release handle located on the rail of the opener. This will let you open the door manually.
- After that, try lifting the garage door. Lift it halfway and see if it slams down. If the door feels heavy or it slams down, you have a faulty spring.
- Check the tracks for obstructions as you lift them.
If this works for you, then the problem is your garage door opener.
